Owing to the special arrangement of the spongy trabeculae along the lines of mechanical force, the bone becomes pliable in a specific way and equally resistant to bending. This is because a bone only bends in response to stress as much as the spongy trabeculae will allow, and this provides the stimulus to strengthening the spongy trabeculae in their particular form. Fig 2-13 The osseous lamellae of the spongy substance of bone are arranged along the lines of force in a bone. Bony substance Bony substance comprises two differentiated structures: the outer compact cortical layer and the inner spongy material (lamellar or cancellous bone).
During prophase, the nuclear membrane breaks down, and the centriole divides and migrates to the poles of the cell. 2. M etaphase (meta = after): The chromosome threads become short and thick and split into two chromatids each. These chromatids come to lie on the equatorial plate. 3. A naphase (ana = onto): The halved chromosomes (chromatids) migrate to the poles, being pulled by the spindle fibers of the centriole. The so-called stem fibers (protein threads) between the chromatids also push them to the poles.
However, elastic fibers (elastin) are also found there, so that the tissue has a high level of mobility and returns to its original position after pressure has been placed upon it. Loose connective tissue is a filling and displacement tissue that serves as a water store (eg, in subcutaneous connective tissue). Tight connective tissue is mainly interspersed with many tensile, inelastic, collagenous fibers to give a highly tensile, not very elastic tissue. It is found as shiny white tissue in the form of a muscular coat (fascia) and as tendinous tissue.
