40 Welfare The American Joint Distribution Committee, banned in 1950, renewed contacts in 1981 and has subsequently helped in welfare work and the modernisation of the community. It also runs the kosher restaurants. The Council of the Jewish Community is in contact with the Zentralwohlfahrtstelle der Juden in Deutschland in Frankfurt on Main (Central Welfare Board of the Jews in Germany), which arranges rest cures for the aged at West German spa resorts. In 1940 all Chilean Jewish organisations united to form the Comite Representativo de la Collectividad Israelita de Chile (now the Comite Representativo de las Entidades Judias de Chile).
