The ends of the tubules are perpendicular to the DEJ and dentinocemental junction. Along the tubule walls are small lateral openings called canaliculi. As the odontoblastic process proceeds from the cell in the pulp to the DEJ, lateral secondary branches extend into the canaliculi and seem to communicate with lateral extensions of adjacent odontoblastic processes.
