Liniger was in the military, but he knew he would get out when his enlistment was up; and when he did, he decided he was going to get into the real estate business and become an investor. That was the kind of man who wore a suit, looked after his family, and got rich. Those thoughts meshed with another book Liniger read around that time. It was written by a postman who had bought a property in disrepair at a distressed price, fixed it up, made a profit, bought a duplex next, and did the same thing with that.
Napoleon Hill’s book was the first of many to have a strong impression on him. Hill’s idea that whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can also achieve hit the young Liniger hard. But he lacked anything solid to hitch his considerable attention and drive onto. Because he started grade school early, he started college early, too, entering as a very young 17-year-old. Free from the kind of oversight he’d gotten in high school from his parents and teachers, he showed no self-discipline whatsoever and quickly fell behind.
He threw himself into the business, read voraciously, and took every kind of course he could find. He became a Dave Stone groupie, following him from lecture to lecture, getting to know him better, and carefully fostering him as a personal mentor. ) Life, not surprisingly, began to improve dramatically. With his newfound ability to sell came plenty of money and the respect of the people around him. He got himself a nicer car, with air conditioning. Before he knew it, he got a salesman-ofthe-month plaque.
