The design of SSCs in nuclear plants is founded on two pillars: (1) the classification of the SSC based on its safety function (safety Class 1, highest, then 2, 3, and Non-Safety) and seismic category (SC-I or SC-II/I or nonseismic), and (2) the design loads and load combinations to be applied to 40 Nuclear Power Plant Safety and Mechanical Integrity the SSC.
