Repetition of the sound usually produces no response at all. There is a danger here in the testing of hearing because it may be thought that the response to the first presentation of the sound was just a fluke ; as a result unwarranted suspicions of deafness may arise and cause great concern.
So it is really this requirement which lies behind a hoarse voice and a feeling of exhaustion (though not of course the hangover) after a lively party, Let's go back now to our baby who is beginning to babble.
