67 The treatment of the Eucharist within narrative theology has been in consistent and a dichotomy between the place of word and sacrament has been apparent in the work of Stroup, for example. He regards the Eucharist as merely a different way of proclaiming the gospel. 69 However, remembrance of the past is more than a matter of maintaining community identity: remembrance also entails eschatological hope for the future. I would suggest that it is through an engagement with anamnesis that it becomes possible to hold together the past, present and future dynamics in relation to the transformation of the community for the world.
